*Summer Book Read – “The Book of Longings.” Discussion will be Thursday August 21, 6:30 pm at Nancy Hengeveld’s – 327 Southside Dr SE, Preston. “The Book of Longings” by Sue Monk Kidd is a novel which explores the imagined life of Ana, the wife of Jesus, and her journey to find her voice in a patriarchal society. The book is deeply researched and offers a unique perspective on Jesus’s humanity and the struggles of women to find their voices and purpose in a culture where decisions are made for them. It delves into themes of faith, love, and the pursuit of one’s own purpose. How would you imagine the wife of Jesus? Bestselling author Sue Monk Kidd imagines Jesus’ wife to be brainy, rebellious and resourceful – Ana. UK Daily mail says, “It’s the story we all know, but from a new angle, with all the familiar characters brought to vivid life…” Come for conversation. Come to wonder. Come whether you read the book or glanced at a summary.
Coming Up! Summer Sermon Series: GROUNDED
We invite you to root down, look up, and learn what it might mean for you and our community of faith to be grounded in creation. There will be take-home sensory activities for each topic –
July 6: Earth – Do you know how much time farmers spend with soil? Connect to the earth by visiting a farm, or putting your hands in the soil to plant something, make a mudpie, etc. July 20: Water – Make a list of all the water you encounter in a day. From morning to night, how often do you see, feel, touch, taste, and hear water? *August 3: VBS Worship and BWCAW Sendoff – share the energy of summer ministries with our kids and youth. August 10: Fire and BWCAW Trippers – Learn from youth about how they cooked over a flame on their trip. How did it taste or smell? How else did they use fire? August 24: Air – Make a pinwheel! Put it outside or take it for a spin yourself. August 31: Flora and Fauna – Appreciate your pets! It’s outdoor worship and Blessing of the Animals. Bring your furry or feathered pet for a special blessing.
