Fall 2020 Worship Service Update

At our September council meeting, we decided on a date for resuming indoor worship at Christ Lutheran: October 4th at 9:00am. There will be no advance sign up required, but we will limit attendance to 50% of our sanctuary capacity. Sunday worship services will continue to be recorded and broadcast online and on the radio for those who choose to watch or listen from home.

While it will be nice to be back in our building, know that things will not be the same as they were in March. Changes have been made to help improve the level of safety and cleanliness when we gather together. These changes are explained in the COVID-19 Preparedness Plan we made–which was required before resuming in-person worship. The plan outlines changes made and steps taken to limit exposure to illness and create the safest environment we can.

A few highlights of the plan:

  • Large gathering still pose a risk for infection, therefore, we strongly urge all “at risk” staff and members of vulnerable populations to stay home and participate in services remotely.
  • In the front and back of the church building, one door will be marked for entrance, one for exit to limit contact with other people.
  • Hand sanitizing stations have been set up at each entrance door for use by all people immediately upon entering the building.
  • Current state guidelines require everyone to wear masks while inside the building.
  • There will be no ushers and we will not pass the offering plate, but instead will use a basket in the center aisle. We also recommend mailing in envelopes, online giving or direct deposits as reliable, safe giving options.
  • Every other pew has been marked off and all households are asked to maintain 6 ft distance from each other on all sides.
  • There will temporarily be no congregational singing during worship due to heightened risk of transmission, but we are able to have a song leader sing the hymns/ songs.
  • There will be no communion at least for the first few weeks. Home communion, outdoor communion, and family communion are options to consider. Talk with Pastor Dan for more information.
  • We will have a shortened length of service.
  • There will be no fellowship time or coffee/ cookies/snacks after worship.
  • No hymnals or bulletins will be used unless requested. Instructions and lyrics will be on the monitors.
  • The nursery will not be open.
